My first reaction to this was to say that I though the background was a little distracting, and that it might have been better with a little bokeh, but now I am not sure.

I think I like it better the way you have it, it gives the shot a character and a sense of place that go a long way towards defining the man in the picture as well. All in all, I think it is a great portrait.
